Season'S Preview #3

Dear fans,
At last the new season is upon us, and we are approaching it with a very positive attitude. Promotion to the Premier League is our only aim. Some people may think that’s quite a "ballsy" thing to say, but having seen our opponents last season and this pre-season, we are as well equipped as any.

We have strengthened our squad with the arrival of Willie Falconer and goalkeeper Dave McEwan on loan from Livingston. Willie brings much needed experience to our front line and also the ability to play in a number of positions. This will prove vital with the new transfer window system. He will mainly be used as a striker and as well as scoring many goals, he will aid Paddy Keogh’s development. We are delighted that Pat has chosen to come in as a full-time professional. It was a big decision for him and he made some sacrifices to full-time, but with his great attitude and undoubted talent I’m sure he and Clyde will reap the rewards. Dave McEwan comes with glowing reports from all who we have spoken to about him. He brings some much needed competition to the goalkeeping position and, along with Bryn, gives us options we didn’t have previously.

Every one of the players reported back for training already in good shape, so although pre-season is always hard they gave themselves a head start. The friendly games have gone quite well, our defending has been good and we don’t look like conceding many goals. The midfield has also looked solid and we are now using the full width of the pitch which should stretch teams further. The forwards have played in fits and starts and we are still searching for our best pairing.

I would ask you as supporters to give the team as much support as possible and also have some patience. I have been as frustrated as you have at the lack of chances we are taking but realistically we would all take a 1-0 result any day – but don’t think we wouldn’t like 4-0.

I look forward to seeing you all at Queen of the South on Saturday.

Best wishes,
Alan Kernaghan
