Recap
Clyde’s SPFL Trust Trophy campaign ended at the first hurdle this evening as Rangers B snatched the victory with a stoppage time winner.
Ian McCall heavily rotated his side and made seven changes from Saturday’s victory over Stranraer, with Jay Kennedy making his Bully Wee debut in goals and Darren Hynes his first start of the season.
Darren Hynes made a good early run forward into the Rangers box before fizzing a cross-cum-shot across the face of goal, whilst the young Gers had the ball in the net following a free-kick at the other end, but the flag was raised for offside.
Craig Howie then made a vital block from a cut back before Clyde were unlucky not to take the lead after a penalty box stramash at the other end. Mason Munn flapped at a corner which allowed Paul McKay and Marley Redfern to have efforts, then Logan Dunachie saw his header cleared off the line.
The Bully Wee took the lead two minutes before half-time after Clinton Nsiala caught Lee Connelly with a high boot in the box. Dunachie stepped up to the spot and rifled the penalty beyond Munn.
Dunachie tried his luck just after the interval with a drive from outside the box but Munn got down low to deny him.
Rangers B then equalised in style just before the hour mark when Alex Lowry picked up the ball on the left wing, cut inside and curled an unstoppable effort past Jay Kennedy into the top corner from 25 yards out.
They took the lead following a quick counter attack when Lovelace squared for the unmarked Calum Burnside to slot beyond Kennedy from close range.
Ten minutes later Burnside’s night was over when he was shown a straight red card for a wild lunge on Jordan Houston which forced the defender off shortly after coming on as a sub.
Clyde drew level with five minutes remaining after Connelly floated a high ball across goal which Martin Rennie nodded into the path of Robbie Leitch who prodded home from a few yards out.
With the man advantage Clyde threw men forward in search of a winner but it would prove their undoing, as Rangers broke quickly and an unmarked Lowry beat the advancing Kennedy to the ball before slotting home from a tight angle in the first minute of stoppage time.
