Recap
The Bully Wee returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory over Stranraer this afternoon thanks to second half goals from Martin Rennie and Scott Williamson.
Darren Young made three changes to his side, with Rennie, Ross Lyon and the returning Andy Murdoch coming in for Logan Dunachie, Callum Hannah and Williamson. Dylan Watt also dropped out of the squad, with the winger joining Kirkintilloch Rob Roy on loan for the rest of the season.
The opening stages of the match saw little goalmouth action, with Grant Gallagher being the first player to test a goalkeeper midway through the half. His effort from distance stung the palms of Robbie Hemfrey, before Lee Hamilton cleared the danger.
At the other end Josh Lane got down low to deny Ross Lyon, before holding an effort from Andy Murdoch a few minutes later.
Barry Cuddihy also came close as the half drew to a close, with his effort flashing across the face of goal.
Young made tactical changes at half-time which saw Cuddihy switch to the middle of the park and the move paid dividends, with The Bully Wee dominating the second half.
The deadlock was broken four minutes after the interval. Murdoch won possession deep inside his own half and drove forward, playing in Cuddihy who in turn threaded the ball through to Martin Rennie. The striker took a touch to cut inside, before slotting a low shot beyond Lane.
Another intricate passing move two minutes later saw Clyde almost double their lead after Cuddihy sent Taylor Sutherland through on goal, but he drilled his effort just wide.
Sutherland created another opening for himself after showing some good determination but again his shot went across the face of goal and narrowly past the post.
Scott Williamson was introduced from the bench and he sealed the points with six minutes remaining. Ryan Edgar attempted to play a ball back to his defence from inside his own half, but Williamson raced onto it and was through one-on-one with Lane, with Liam Scullion also offering support. He decided to round the ‘keeper, and rolled the ball into the empty net.
Lane pulled off a terrific reflex save with time running out to deny Clyde a third, when he kept out Scullion’s header from a Williamson cross.
