Hide Match Report

Clyde secured an important victory against Annan Athletic this afternoon, with the three points clinched thanks to an excellent Jamie Pollock goal in the 87th minute.

With injuries, illness and suspensions to contend with, Barry Ferguson made three changes to the Clyde team following the defeat to Elgin City last week. Ross Fisher, Steven McDougall and Paul Slane were all added to the starting line-up and David Marsh was deployed in a new role in midfield.

The first half of the match was evenly contested throughout, but featured little in the way of goalmouth action at either end of the pitch. The Bully Wee's best chance to score before the interval came when the ball bounced in front of Marsh in the box, but it wouldn't come down for him and his effort sailed over the bar.

With Paul Slane and Keigan Parker struggling, Mark Roberts and Jamie Pollock were brought on at half-time and Clyde started the second half brightly. Brian McQueen was in the thick of the action as four chances fell to him in a matter of minutes; a shot that fizzed just past the post, a low drive that was saved, a close-range shot that was brilliantly pushed away and a header that missed the target.

As Clyde continued to dominate play, Roberts then came close with a curling shot from the edge of the box that narrowly missed the target. Steven McDougall was next to threaten when he latched onto Pollock's clever pass, but he couldn't quite beat the 'keeper to the ball after getting inside full-back Jack Breslin.

Annan's attacks were rare and the home side's best opportunity fell to Steven Swinglehurst when he met a corner, but his header went over Alan Martin's goal.

As the end of the match approached, Clyde worked the ball to the edge of the penalty area and Pollock did brilliantly to create room for a shot and find the bottom corner of the net.
