Recap

The sun shone for the Bully Wee as Ross Cunningham’s brace coupled with Euan Cameron’s strike gave Clyde a convincing victory over Kelty Hearts.

Erik Sula made his first start in Clyde colours and Olly McDonald came in for the suspended Jordan Allan as Danny Lennon opted to make two changes to the side that drew with Peterhead last Saturday.

It was a highly-contested state of affairs in the opening 15 minutes with both teams having clear chances at goal. Paul Kennedy caught onto Peter Grant’s switch and pushed the ball forward into a dangerous area, nevertheless, no Clyde bodies were there to intercept. Meanwhile, Kelty powered through the park at rapid speed with the ball squared to Agyeman, however, Neil Parry came firing out the traps to collect. A free-kick was then taken at the edge of the box, but Parry stretched out his fingertips to tilt the ball over.

The Bully Wee then had two quick-fire opportunities of their own with Ross Cunningham working the ball through to Ross Lyon whose effort flew straight at Jamieson, while Cunningham’s low shot was also blocked by the ‘keeper.

Agyeman hit a shot from a tight angle almost immediately after the first ‘water break’ which Parry collected with ease. The striker had a crystal-clear chance to open the scoring in the 28th minute as Docherty calmy put the ball at his feet at the front of an empty net, which spectacularly flew wide.

As the clock ticked past the half-hour mark, Morgaro Gomis hit a high cross in the face of goal, however, its power proved too much for McDonald who failed to connect. Lyon later found himself in position after some smooth play, however, his shot was blocked by Jamieson. The match started to die down ever so slightly with neither team able to create full chances in the final minutes before the interval.

In the early minutes of the re-start both teams remained at loggerheads with the only action of note being an effort from McDonald which careered wide off the post and a shot from Tidser which was blocked by Parry.

Clyde opened the deadlock in the 53rd minute as Sula won possession and chipped the ball over the Kelty backline into the path of Cunningham who drove forward and converted with a skilful lob over Jamieson which hit the roof of the net.

Gomis then came a hairs-width of doubling the advantage for the Bully Wee as after getting on the back of possession in the box, he hit a volley which went inches wide. The number eight tried his luck minutes later as he cut inside the box to curl a strong effort which was correctly judged by Jamieson.

The Maroon Machine came ever so close to an equaliser in the 75th minute with a low-header from a corner-kick which narrowly missed the target.

Clyde doubled their advantage in the 80th minute as Liam Scullion strode forward at alarming speed to square the ball to Gomis who in turn set up Euan Cameron with the ball crashing the net.

The Bully Wee continued to dominate with the majority of possession which resulted in a third courtesy of Cunningham. The forward ran the majority of the pitch after latching onto Cameron’s pass and made no mistake firing the ball into the target.

In the dying embers of the match, Kelty spurned an opportunity for a late consolation with an angled cross which was prevented by Parry.
