Recap

First half goals from strike duo Sean Higgins and Peter MacDonald helped The Bully Wee to secure an excellent win at Borough Briggs this afternoon, despite finishing the match with ten men after the dismissal of Martin McNiff.

Barry Ferguson made an enforced change to the starting line-up following the win over Arbroath, with recent signing Ross Perry coming in for the injured Dylan Easton.

Clyde got off to the best possible start when Higgins netted in the second minute. The striker scored from close range after a knock on by Martin McNiff from a Scott Linton long throw.

Smith and Higgins then went close as Clyde kept up the pressure, but Elgin gradually came into the game more and John Gibson had to be on his toes, saving well twice within two minutes.

On 41 minutes, MacDonald put Clyde two ahead with a lob from outside the box, following a headed clearance by home ‘keeper Black as he raced out of his penalty area.

Clyde went in to the half-time break 2-0 ahead but the second half began with the home side showing their intent, dominating possession but failing to seriously trouble the Clyde goal.

As the game entered the last 15 minutes, McNiff was shown a straight red card when he stumbled on top of the ball just outside the box. Two minutes earlier, Gibson had pulled off a remarkable double save as Elgin threw everything at the Clyde goal.

David Gormley replaced MacDonald as Clyde’s ten men maintained the clean sheet, with Gibson capping a fine individual performance as he once again again kept the Elgin forwards at bay.

After a Clyde breakaway, the hardworking Higgins went close with a fierce free kick from just outside the box, before he was replaced by Scott Ferguson in the last minute. The Bully Wee played out the closing stages in determined fashion to secure a superb three points.
